Let's Get Started - Project Instructions
1. RegisterCome join us in the Gingerbread STEM Community Makerspace Challenge by Registering for the Project. Once registered, you should receive a confirmation email.

2. Join our Project Facebook Group (Optional)One of our favorite elements of the Gingerbread STEM Project is the collaboration amongst registered classrooms. Registered teachers will receive a link and are invited to join our private Facebook group. There teachers and homeschool leaders share progress on students' research and construction and find potential classroom partners to compare/contrast communities.

3. Start the Research ProcessNow it's time to explore the goods and services within your own community. Invite the students to create their own "I wonder" statements about the resources and helpers who help your community thrive.
We also encourage researching organizations and nonprofits working to help your community as a whole.

4. Interview Community Members - OptionalIt's difficult to have guest speakers visit schools, especially if your class is fully remote, but luckily, virtual connections are possible.

5. Let's Start Designing!After students research Oh sathe goods, services, and careers that keep their community thriving, it's time to draft plans for your collaborative diorama or virtual community. This is the planning phase.

6. Construct your Community Either Physically or VirtuallyHurray! You've made it to the construction phase. It's time to consider what the best format for your learning environment. Class are welcome to construct any product of choice, but we have some ideas to get your creative wheels moving.

7. Share Your Creation and Celebrate Your SuccessThe best part of this project is being able to share your creation with others. Registered classrooms who were invited to our private Facebook group can share video tours in the group or perhaps setup a classroom-to-classroom video conference call (Zoom, Meet, Teams) to compare/contrast communities.
We also invite everyone to share photos of student creations using our #GingerbreadSTEM hashtag. We would LOVE to see what your students created. |
